INTERNET CHILD PORNOGRAPHY SENDS WATERLOO MAN TO FEDERAL PRISON
A Waterloo man who downloaded child pornography from the Internet onto his computer was sentenced on January 4, 2011, to more than 24 years in federal prison.
Edward Swingen, 43, from Waterloo, Iowa, received the prison term after August 30, 2010, guilty pleas to receiving and possessing child pornography.
In a plea agreement, Swingen admitted he received photographs of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct by downloading the pictures from the Internet and possessed and attempted to possess on his computer photographs and videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Swingen was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade to 293 months’ imprisonment. A special assessment of $200 was imposed, and he must also serve a 10 year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Swingen is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sean R. Berry and investigated by the Waterloo Police Department.
